EASY POINTS! I just made shorts and...?
Jeans are made of denim and denim is cotton and cotton is a natural fiber so it won't melt and fuse together, all it will do is flare up, smoulder to ash and stink so keep the matches away from the edges. If the shorts were made of nylon or polypropylene then they would melt, but cotton...sorry! Try cutting the edge in a tiny toothed or notched zig-zag pattern, like the kind of cut made by a pinking shears. The small toothed edge will fray less that a straight across or angled cut.
